The lighthouse was built by the Japanese in 1939. Since 1990, it has been manned permanently, operating autonomously. However, in 2006, it ceased operations altogether, and since then has been deteriorating under the influence of wind and water.
You can visit the interior of the lighthouse, and its upper platform offers incredible views of Sakhalin, the Sea of Okhotsk, and the Sea of Japan.
