Kamchatka

Volcanoes, geysers and the ocean

A unique region where you can stroll through lava fields, climb to the top of an active volcano (and even peer into its crater!), relax in open-air thermal springs, or stroll along a black-sand beach along the Pacific Ocean. Kamchatka's landscape and nature are incredibly picturesque: mountain ranges and an ocean shore indented with dozens of rocky coves and capes. Some of the views seem otherworldly, downright fantastical. And there's also a rich wildlife: bustling bird colonies and sea lion rookeries, foxes, moose, marmots, ground squirrels, and, of course, bears.

Kamchatka offers a wide variety of vacation options: challenge yourself with a long trek or choose helicopter tours for a relaxed and effortless journey to the most fascinating locations and a chance to admire natural beauty from above. In winter, snowboarders and skiers flock to the region to enjoy freeriding amid stunning views. Indeed, skiing down from a peak on pristine snow straight to the ocean is a truly incredible experience! Even in summer, active sports enthusiasts will find plenty to do in Kamchatka, such as surfing at Khalaktyrsky Beach or sea kayaking in one of the bays.

Places of attraction

Avacha Bay,
the second largest bay in the world, juts out into the land for a whopping 24 kilometers! Avacha Bay is worth seeing from various angles: from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, which sprawls along its shores, from the water during a boat cruise, or from above, climbing a hill.

The Valley of Geysers
is one of Kamchatka's most recognizable natural landmarks. This relatively small valley (only about 6 square kilometers) is home to approximately eighty geysers, mud pools, and hot springs. Jets of hot water and steam shoot upward, along with verdant slopes and colorful cliffs.

Plosky
Tolbachik Volcano. This amazing spectacle is relatively safe: during the spectacular fissure lava flows, you can fly quite close by helicopter.

Russkaya Bay is
a narrow bay, deeply indented by the mainland, surrounded by cliffs and lowlands. Its waters are almost always calm and teem with fish and other marine life, making it an excellent fishing spot. At the entrance to the bay is Cape Kekurny, where dozens of Steller sea lions rest.

Khalaktyrsky Beach
: A cosmic landscape: black volcanic sand and the endless expanse of the Pacific Ocean… A must-see sunset or sunrise, and you can also surf year-round: even in winter, you can come here to conquer the waves.

Mutnovsky Volcano
is an active shield volcano with an elevation of 2,322 meters. Mutnovsky is remarkable for the unusual shades of its crater walls. A veritable riot of color reigns here: blue glaciers, sulfur-colored rocks, and cauldrons of red and eerily black. Here you can see an 80-meter waterfall or peer into ice caves.

Vilyuchinsky Volcano
is inactive, but nonetheless very interesting. Its almost perfect cone shape distinguishes Vilyuchinsky from other hills and volcanoes. It is home to hot springs and a beautiful waterfall. In summer, rocky ridges alternate with ever-present snow, and in winter, the completely white volcano attracts snowboarders and skiers.
