The endless expanses of the tundra, the snow-capped slopes of the Khibiny Mountains, the cold waters of the Barents Sea and the Arctic Ocean, the legendary Teriberka Peninsula, rocky cliffs, and a rich marine life—all this is the Kola Peninsula. Here you will discover the amazing world of the Russian Arctic and the harsh northern nature, and you can visit one of the top 15 most beautiful locations in Russia—the Rybachy Peninsula. On the Kola Peninsula, you can have a unique and rare experience and witness two natural wonders up close: majestic whales and the magical Northern Lights, shimmering in every shade of green and purple. Arctic cuisine, with its abundance of fish and seafood—mussels, scallops, and crabs—deserves special attention.
But tours here offer more than just aurora hunting, a culinary paradise, and tranquil contemplation. The Kola Peninsula offers a wealth of activities: rides on powerful snowmobiles or dog sleds, freeride snowboarding or alpine skiing, visiting a Sami village and learning about the indigenous people's way of life. And the peninsula's comfortable hotel complexes allow you to enjoy the wilderness without leaving civilization!
The Rybachy Peninsula
is one of the top-ranked most beautiful places in our country, the northernmost point of continental Russia. Rocky headlands, waterfalls, abandoned military garrisons from the Great Patriotic War, and the most stunning sunsets at the edge of the world. Rybachy is beautiful both in warm weather and in winter, when it can be explored by snowmobile.
Teriberka is
a legendary village that gained particular fame after the release of the film "Leviathan." The local landscapes are rugged, and the atmosphere is brutal. Here you can see dragon eggs, a lighthouse, and a gloomy ship graveyard, and the surrounding area is perfect for hunting the Northern Lights.
The Northern Lights.
Flashes of fantastical hues shimmering in the dark sky—an unforgettable spectacle! The aurora season runs from August to early April. They appear at latitudes of 67-70°, and are best hunted away from large population centers. Therefore, the Kola Peninsula is ideal for encountering the lights.
Whales.
You can encounter a variety of marine life in the coastal waters of the Kola Peninsula, including seals and dolphins. But most visitors to the peninsula are drawn to the chance to encounter enormous, majestic whales spouting jets of water. While no one can guarantee a sighting, it's definitely worth trying your luck!
Lovozero is
a picturesque forest lake in the center of the peninsula. On its shores lies the village of the same name, a stern northern Venice, some of whose streets resemble Lovozero's tributaries. Here you'll find excellent fishing, virtually untouched nature, and mysterious landscapes.
Peninsula,
it's worth taking the time to explore the nearest major city, Murmansk. It descends from the hills to the bay like giant steps, and here you can see the world's first nuclear-powered icebreaker and more recent, yet incredibly touching, landmarks—the monument to Semyon the Cat and the "Waiting" sculpture.
