Baikal

The deepest lake and places of power

Baikal is the purest water, contrasting landscapes and the land of legends. Here you will find deep taiga, mountain rivers, endless steppes, noisy waterfalls, quiet bays, hot springs and even luxurious sandy beaches. Whatever type of vacation you prefer, Baikal has something to offer you: both active entertainment and quiet contemplation of natural beauty.

Baikal is a sacred lake. And we’re not just talking about Places of Power, sacred islands and shamanic traditions of the region. This lake is about 25 million years old, while ordinary reservoirs of this type “live” on average 15 thousand years. Baikal seems eternal, and this atmosphere of miracle is felt by everyone who visits it. Here you can make your innermost wishes at the Stupa of Enlightenment, see the beach of Peschanaya Bay, where legendary stilted trees with bizarre roots grow, and visit the famous Olkhon Island - the center of northern shamanism. Any season on Lake Baikal is amazing: in the summer you can enjoy blooming nature, catch the sun’s rays and swim. In winter, travelers come here for the famous Baikal ice - perfectly transparent, with patterns of cracks and bubbles, creating monumental ice sculptures in mysterious grottoes and on high rocky shores.

Places of attraction:

Olkhon Island
The largest island of Baikal with a variety of nature: deciduous and coniferous forests, steep cliffs of fantastic shapes, quiet bays and beaches with fine sand. Olkhon also has a rich history: the first settlements date back to the Paleolithic era, and for many centuries it was the center of shamanism.

Peschanaya Bay
These landscapes are some of the most recognizable on Baikal: soft light sand, piercing blue water and the rocks surrounding the bay, which are decorated with greenery. And, of course, this is where you can see the legendary stilted trees. The wind and water have exposed their roots, creating a truly fantastic appearance.

The islands of Ogoy and Zamogoy
Ogoy are a sacred island with a Buddhist Stupa of Enlightenment. People have never lived here, and Ogoy is considered a sacred place. Zamogo, according to local beliefs, is a “dark” island where lepers once lived. It is less popular among tourists, but here there is a great chance to watch the Baikal seals.

Circum-Baikal Railway
A trip along the Circum-Baikal Railway will impress both those who are interested in engineering achievements and those who want to see the beauty of Lake Baikal in comfort, from the window of a moving train. The route is rightfully recognized as one of the most beautiful in the world: pointed arches of bridges, tunnels in moss-covered rocks, water surfaces, forests and hills.

Khamar-Daban
The main mountain range of the Baikal region. Khamar-Daban is visible from many popular locations: peaks in a bluish haze rise on the horizon and amaze with their grandeur. The ridge is called the “Siberian jungle” for its incredible diversity of flora and fauna, as well as its ruggedness and inaccessibility.

Aya Bay
A picturesque sandy bay, protected from the winds on all sides. It is interesting to visit both in summer and winter: suitable for a beach holiday in a calm atmosphere or for walking on the clearest ice surrounded by majestic ice splashes on the surrounding rocks. Nearby are the oldest Siberian caves.

Pribaikalsky Park
The reserve is home to thousands of representatives of the amazing Baikal fauna. Most animals trust people and come very close, so when visiting the national park you can take great shots of deer, yaks, chipmunks and many birds (there are 303 species here!).
