If you are interested in the Russian North, are not afraid of harsh conditions, and dream of feeling like a pioneer - welcome to Chukotka! This tourist destination will be of interest to anyone who collects important geographical markers on their personal map. Here is the most extreme continental point of the continent (and our country), Cape Dezhnev. And in Chukotka you can cross the 180 meridian - the border between the Western and Eastern Hemispheres, and visit the location where this border intersects with the Arctic Circle. And all this - surrounded by restrained, sometimes cruel, but incredibly beautiful nature. Snow-capped mountains and sloping hills, cold waves and mysterious tundra, incredibly picturesque lakes hidden in hard-to-reach places and panoramic views to the very horizon, opening from rocky capes.
In Chukotka you will visit reindeer herders and whalers, taste the freshest red caviar in a fishing village, hear mesmerizing throat singing and learn how villages built in permafrost live. It's like a trip to another world that will forever remain one of your most vivid and unusual memories.
Anadyr
The capital of Chukotka and the largest seaport in the region. Here you will find the harsh life and incredible flavor of the northern city, an acquaintance with the culture of indigenous peoples and an incredibly beautiful cathedral built of wood. All routes around Chukotka begin in Anadyr and it’s definitely worth staying here for a day or two.
Egvekinot
A village located beyond the 180th meridian - that is, in the Western Hemisphere! Egvekinot itself is surprisingly cozy, which is something you wouldn’t expect from such a remote settlement. There are many interesting sights in the surrounding area - from the new ethnopark on a picturesque cape to the intersection of the 180th meridian.
The 180th meridian and the Arctic Circle
It is impossible to visit Chukotka without passing two important geographical boundaries - the change of hemispheres and the Arctic Circle.
And also the point where these two lines intersect! Of course, there are monuments in these locations, but the most important thing is the opportunity to feel like a brave traveler far from civilization! Lake Ravkergygytgyn
“Transparent Lake” with an incredible name. A very beautiful place with emerald green waters that reflect the surrounding slopes. The mountains here are of an unusual color, as if interspersed with rust, and the local landscape can easily be called one of the most picturesque places in Chukotka.
Gudym
Abandoned military base and military town. This place was never on the maps because Gudym was classified as a secret during the Cold War. The village was finally abandoned by the military in 2002, today you can simply stroll along the empty streets and derelict buildings or go down into the mines.
Cape Dezhnev
The easternmost point of Russia and Eurasia. Not far from the cape, two oceans meet, and the coast of North America is only 85 km! An amazing cape that is difficult to reach - which means that you will be one of the few travelers to reach this location. Around there are only rocks, bird colonies, walruses and whales.
Lorino
"Whaling Capital". Lorino is a village inhabited by the indigenous peoples of Chukotka, for whom whaling is a vital part of daily life. Here you can go to sea to see sea hunting, visit bone carvers and admire their skills, and in the vicinity of the village there are famous hot springs.
Masik Settlement
Perhaps the oldest traditional settlement in Chukotka, abandoned by its inhabitants more than a century ago. Since Masik is located in an inaccessible place, the buildings were not completely destroyed: here you can see the ruins of residential and service buildings built from the bones and skulls of whales.
