Sakhalin

Bays, rocks, taiga and lighthouses

The edge of the earth, where a magical dawn occurs before all regions in the country.

Here, ancient lighthouses rise on wave-washed rocky capes, hundreds of birds nest in secluded bays, and the Torii Gate rises on the hills - a symbolic entrance to a Shinto shrine, a legacy of the Japanese period of the island’s life. Sakhalin is completely saturated with exoticism, filled with myths and legends, and amazes with its contrasting and unusual nature. Getting to know the region begins with the cozy low-rise Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, surrounded by hills.
The streets of the city are surrounded by greenery; modern buildings coexist with Japanese buildings of the first half of the 20th century. Due to the small size of the island, it is easy to reach the main natural attractions from here. For example, just 17 km from the capital there is a rock that is more than 70 million years old - the Frog Remnant, towering above the endless floodplain forests. In less than 4 hours you can drive to one of the main locations of the island, Cape Giant, which is famous for its bizarre stone arches. We invite you to Sakhalin, an island of wonders, where breathtaking views lurk around every turn!

Places of attraction

Aniva Lighthouse
The lighthouse on the cape of the same name is the pearl of the island.

This now abandoned, gradually crumbling building rises on picturesque cliffs. It was built in 1939 by the Japanese. You can get inside and climb to the top platform, passing 9 floors, to enjoy a fantastic panorama. Klokovsky Waterfall
The highest waterfall in Sakhalin, height - 49 m. The water is divided into three streams flowing at a slight slope, the upper part of the waterfall is hidden behind the trees.

Light mist from the spray, silent forests and rocks, well-equipped observation decks with gazebos - all this makes Klokovsky a peaceful, magical place. Tikhaya Bay
The best thing about the bay is its name.

It is sheltered from bad weather by the Zhdanko ridge, thanks to which it is always calm and almost windless. An ideal place for a leisurely walk or a picnic: the rustling of sea waves, the cries of birds and the bizarre shapes of the foot of the rocks, carved by the waves. Cape Giant
One of the most famous locations of Sakhalin, which is a must-see on any tour.

On the cape, under the influence of water and wind, amazing stone arches were formed. From Cape Velikan you can take a walk to Cape Bird, looking at amazing grottoes, rocks and noisy bird colonies along the way. Lava plateau Yankito
Plateau is located on the island of Iturup, a visit to which is often included in tours to Sakhalin.

The landscape is reminiscent of scenes from a science-fiction film: waves of frozen lava form an unusually shaped rock. We recommend visiting the plateau at sunset, when it looks absolutely unique, turning reddish. Lake Busse
A visit to Sakhalin cannot be imagined without seafood delicacies, for which it is best to go to the famous gastronomic lake.

Here you can literally get mussels and shrimp, sea urchins and giant oysters from the water with your bare hands. You can also watch seals and fur seals on the lake. Iturup Island
The most famous island of the Kuril Islands, which is worth a look during a visit to Sakhalin. Lava plateaus, unusually shaped rocks, mud volcanoes and calm bays - the landscapes of Iturup amaze with their exoticism and diversity. You can also meet bears or have excellent fishing on the island.
