The deepest canyon in Europe, the waters of the Chirkey Reservoir sparkling under the sun, mysterious watchtowers on inaccessible rocks, an atmospheric ghost village, thundering waterfalls and high mountain plateaus... You will see the most vivid and memorable locations in Dagestan, enjoy local hospitality and the famous Caucasian cuisine.
We invite you to the country of mountains, where a river runs along the bottom of the famous Sulak canyon, sparkling in the sun, where the wind blows through the streets of the abandoned village of Gamsutl, and the watchtowers built in the 8th-10th centuries still emanate power and confidence.
In this short but very rich program we included the most iconic sights of Dagestan. You will see the Chirkey Reservoir and take a boat ride along it, look at the Sulak Canyon from the best observation deck, go down into the labyrinths of the Nokhyo caves, visit one of the most ancient villages in the region - Old Kakhib, capture the Goor towers, learn more about the history of Dagestan during your visit Guniba. Throughout the tour, you will admire how harmoniously the narrow streets and small houses of ancient settlements fit into the mountain landscape. Having been on the Khunzakh plateau, you will come to the very edge of the cliff, from which the Tobot waterfall crashes down with a roar. This tour also includes trekking activities: the path to the famous Gamsutl lies along a forest path, past a clean spring with ice-cold water, where you can refresh yourself. Amazing views, mountain passes, steep cliffs, an abundance of greenery, the purest azure of rivers and reservoirs - all this is Dagestan, which is so easy to fall in love with at first sight.
Add to this delicious Avar cuisine with an abundance of meat, fish and vegetables, intertwining history and poetic legends, comfortable movement between locations in powerful jeeps - it seems that the formula for the ideal tour has been found!
An eco-hotel surrounded by mountains, where you will live surrounded by nature: mountain slopes, a stormy river, endless sky and clean air. Calm environment and stylish barnhouses to stay. Each house has its own toilet and shower, comfortable beds, hygiene and cosmetic items, air conditioning, and hairdryer. Responsive staff, delicious local cuisine, teas from mountain herbs will make your stay here unforgettable.
On the very first day we will plunge headlong into the fascinating atmosphere of Dagestan. After meeting at the airport, we head to the trout farm, where you will have lunch with the freshest fish grilled over charcoal. Then you will have a boat ride along the Chirkey Reservoir, under whose waters the village that was flooded during the construction of the hydroelectric power station is hidden. Next we go to the Dubki observation deck, which offers the most picturesque view of the main pearl of local nature - the fantastically beautiful Sulak Canyon. Having taken hundreds of gorgeous shots, we move on to the Noho cave complex, where the adits cut during the construction of the dam are woven into a bizarre labyrinth. In the evening we go to the guest house - our path will pass through the longest road tunnel in the country, past the legendary Gimry Tower and the emerald waters of the Irganay Reservoir.
Today you will visit the atmospheric Dagestan villages, which are surprisingly harmoniously integrated into the surrounding landscape and seem to be an integral part of the harsh, but so beautiful local nature. We will visit Old Kahib, one of the oldest settlements in the region. The first buildings here date back to the 8th-10th centuries. Impregnable watchtowers rise above the ancient ruins, which seem to have grown into the rock. We will have lunch in the village of New Goor, where the indigenous people of this place will introduce you to the original Avar cuisine. After lunch, you will have a walk around Old Goor, where there are also high defensive towers, and the mountain winds will knock you off your feet - after all, it is not for nothing that the name of the village itself is translated as “windy”. There is also a stone ledge here, which, by analogy with the famous Norwegian landmark, was called “troll tongue” - another excellent location for breathtaking filming.
We continue to enjoy the beauty of Dagestan nature and views of ancient villages, which have long become the hallmark of the region. After breakfast we head to Gamsutl - perhaps the most recognizable location in all of Dagestan. This is a ghost village, lost among the mountain peaks, it seems to be floating in the clouds, and in its narrow winding streets you can hear the whisper of time, gradually destroying authentic local buildings. And, of course, magnificent panoramas of the surrounding nature open up from above. Please note that it is impossible to get to Gamsutl by car: on this day you will find not the easiest, but very picturesque trekking route through untouched forests. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to refresh yourself with the purest cold water from a mountain spring and relax to the sound of the water. For lunch we go to Gunib. This village is inextricably linked with the fate of the famous Imam Shamil, and also has an excellent microclimate. In Gunib we will visit the local history museum to learn more about the poetic and sometimes tragic history of the region.
This is the last day of the tour, but many more exciting experiences await you! After having breakfast on the guest tour, we hit the road. Our goal is the Khunzakh high mountain plateau, which is interesting not only for its impressive views, but also because it is the birthplace of many famous poets and great warriors. You will see the Tsotlinsky canyon and the ancient fortress towering above it, you will be able to go up to the cliff itself and see how the stormy Tobot waterfall falls from a great height. The horseshoe-shaped gorge allows you to see the waterfall from different angles and gives many ideas for mesmerizing photos and videos. We will have lunch today in the Shamilsky district, where you will enjoy already beloved dishes of Avar cuisine. After this, transfer to the airport or Makhachkala railway station.
