About the tour

Crab Safari is a vibrant adventure set against the backdrop of majestic and harsh northern nature! You will find yourself on the Kola Peninsula, far from civilization, in places without communications and almost without people. We invite you to go catch crabs on a fishing schooner and then dine on your own catch, prepared by an experienced chef.

What's included in the program?

Luxurious glamping awaits you on the shores of the Barents Sea, where the windows offer views of cold waters and picturesque rocks, and a hot fire comfortably crackles in the fireplace. Cedar bathhouse and Furaco barrels right on the coast: dive into the sea immediately after soaking in the hot water! The main activity of the tour will not leave anyone indifferent - we will go on a real fishing boat to hunt crabs. In these places there are two types of commercial crabs: snow crab opilio and Kamchatka crab. It is the latter species that is our main goal, because for its enormous size (up to 25 cm in width of the shell and up to 7-9 kilograms in weight!) it is called royal. You will independently throw and pull out special traps, and the ship’s crew, experienced sea wolves, will accompany you at each stage and teach you everything. Back at the glamping site, you can ask the chef to prepare the freshest catch. There are many options for crab dishes: they are boiled and baked, fried and stewed. Choose the cooking method that suits you, take part in a master class, or take your catch home with you for a feast with family and friends!

This trip will make you fall in love with the beautiful Kola Peninsula with its endless expanses, discreet charm, cool winds and the steely shine of the waves of the Barents Sea. We are sure that after the crab safari you will want to return to the “Whale Coast” more than once to take part in other exotic activities - for example, see giant whales or catch the Northern Lights by the tail!

Tour route

More details about the route

Day 1. Valley of Glory, Musta-Tunturi ridge and arrival at glamping

The adventure begins in Murmansk: we will meet you at the hotel or at the airport.
We take buses to the transfer point at the Staraya Titovka checkpoint. Along the way you will see the Valley of Glory memorial, erected in honor of the heroic defense of the Arctic during the Second World War. At the very beginning of the war, at the cost of great sacrifices, superior enemy forces were stopped here, and as a result, throughout the years of the Second World War, the enemy army was never able to break through to Murmansk. From the checkpoint our path lies along a dirt road, so we change the bus to a more prepared vehicle, powerful Toyota jeeps (Hilux or Land Cruiser 80, 105 models). Ahead of you are the endless expanses of the Russian Arctic, the lack of civilization and communications, and the harsh charm of northern nature. We will drive past the Titovka River, into whose mouth whales used to come, past a picturesque waterfall and the impressive, albeit low, Musta-Tunturi pass. Upon arrival at the glamping site, accommodation in cozy ecospheres, a delicious dinner and a relaxing hot sauna.

Day 2. Crab hunting

Today the main event of the entire program awaits you - crab fishing in the Barents Sea!
We will go hunting on the Kegor vessel, which is ideal for almost any activity: from regular tourist cruises to fishing or diving. This is a modern and reliable ship, fully equipped to operate in the Far North. We will be hunting crabs near the border with Norway, in the town of Dolgaya Shchel in Liinakhamari, where this fishing is officially permitted. To catch Kamchatka crabs (they are called king crabs due to their enormous size!) we will use special devices, crab catchers. The ship's crew - experienced sea wolves - will help you cope with the traps and recognize the sex of the caught crab, because the females and young ones will have to be released back into the water. But don’t be upset - the catch will be impressive in any case, and upon returning to the glamping site, an experienced chef will cook the caught crabs for you. And if you want, you can take them home to enjoy with your family and friends!

In just a couple of days on the Kola Peninsula, you have been charged with new impressions and emotions, taken a break from the hustle and bustle and monotonous everyday life, and given yourself an information detox! And now it's time to return home. We will deliver you to one of the hotels in Murmansk or to the city airport. See you soon!
