Where can you see the northern lights in Russia?

The season for the northern lights is from late August to early April. It appears at latitudes around 67–70°, and in our country there are enough suitable places for Aurora hunters. Here are the best ones:

Khibiny, Kola Peninsula . The polar night here lasts 42 days, so your chances of catching the lights increase
Murmansk region. Choose small settlements with minimal light pollution - for example, Teriberka or Pechenga
Krasnoyarsk region. If you prefer to go aurora hunting in Siberia, then it is best to go to Dudinka or Khatanga. Aurora is also visible on the inaccessible Putorana .
Karelia . The aurora can be seen in the regional capital, Petrozavodsk. But in order not to be disturbed by city lighting, it is better to go to less populated places - for example, in the vicinity of Kostomuksha or to Paanajärvi National Park.
