Krasnaya Polyana Sochi: ski resort and resort village
Let's start right away with the main thing. And the main thing is that now, in 2019, the term Krasnaya Polyana can hide three different concepts:
- The village of Krasnaya Polyana, which is located in the mountains, in the Adler district of Sochi
- A mountain cluster that includes two villages - Krasnaya Polyana and Esto-Sadok - and three ski resorts
- Ski resort Krasnaya Polyana, which a week ago was called Gorki Gorod
And it is in this order that we will consider them.
Krasnaya Polyana village
Everything is quite simple here. The urban-type settlement of Krasnaya Polyana is a cozy, beautiful settlement in the mountains. It has its own infrastructure and permanent resident population.
Many tourists are surprised to discover that Krasnaya Polyana is not some “village of three houses and one and a half streets” where it suddenly became fashionable to relax, but a rather large and modern town.
The history of this small village is quite interesting. I talked about it in more detail here: Guide to tourist Krasnaya Polyana
Guests coming to Krasnaya Polyana can discover many interesting sights: Attractions of Krasnaya Polyana
Those tourists who were in Krasnaya Polyana before the 2014 Olympics are usually surprised by the changes that have occurred here. And indeed, five years ago these places became almost unrecognizable for some, but for others, on the contrary, very familiar. And therefore - in demand.
The same foreigners flocked to Krasnaya Polyana only after the Olympics. What about foreigners? I myself first came to Polyana only in 2014, having previously preferred alpine resorts. But, like many ski fans, I succumbed to curiosity and flew to Sochi. Look at the transformations that happened to the resort during the Winter Olympics.
