Chamonix is located in Haute-Savoie and is one of the most famous winter resorts not only in the Mont Blanc region, but throughout France. This is a real “Mecca for skiers”! The resort is located at an altitude of 1010 meters, in a very picturesque valley of the Arv River. It combines optimal infrastructure for keen skiers and excellent conditions for a relaxing holiday - Chamonix will be interesting even for those who are not ready to spend days on end on the slopes. Therefore, the resort is suitable for family holidays or large groups of friends, in which not everyone has the same level of passion for winter sports.
Trails and slopes
The resort of Chamonix has 106 slopes with a height difference of 1008-3300 m. The resort's slopes are served by 49 ski lifts and six funiculars. The total length of all descent zones is 170 km, with the longest route from the top of the Aiguille du Midi stretching for 22 km! There are suitable trails for beginners, intermediate and advanced snowboarders and skiers. For beginners, we recommend the Les Houches area, where there are many green and blue runs. Experienced people should look into Le Grand Morte, as well as into the area with the complex name Le Tour-Vallorcine-Col de Balme: one of the black tracks located here ends in Switzerland.
Entertainment: active recreation and attractions
Chamonix, of course, is not only about snow-covered slopes, but also simply incredible mountain landscapes. Therefore, the resort also attracts tourists who are not particularly keen on winter sports, but love contemplative recreation in nature. One of the most popular local attractions is the Eagle's Nest - this peak (2372 m) can be reached by the beautiful Montenevre railway or in an even more atmospheric way - by the Mont Blanc tram.
More extreme entertainment includes helicopter tours that start in Chamonix-Argentiere and fly over Mont Blanc, as well as a breathtaking observation deck on the Puq du Midi, the walls and floor of which are made of glass - it was called “Step into the Void”, because under Almost a thousand meters of abyss opens here with your feet. The Luge Alpine Coaster roller coaster can also provide a dose of adrenaline: 1300 meters of jumps, turns and breakneck speed.
Cultural events are also held in Chamonix: for example, every spring there is a music festival where electronic music stars perform.
Local kitchen
There are enough restaurants and cafes in Chamonix - here everyone can find an establishment to suit their budget and preferences, and you can have lunch and dinner in a new place every time. The largest concentration of establishments is in the large pedestrian area in the center of Chamonix; you can also note a restaurant with a delightful panoramic view at the upper station of the Aiguille du Midi. It serves French and Italian dishes.
How to get there
Geneva Airport is about an hour's drive from Chamonix, and buses run from there to the resort. At a distance of 140 to 220 kilometers from the resort there are also airports in Turin, Lyon, and Chambery.
