The resort is located in the Tarentaise Valley and belongs to the popular Paradiski ski area. Consists of four stations at altitudes from 1600 to 2000 meters. The first of them, Ark-1600, was opened in 1968 and is distinguished by its unique architecture. The newest and most expensive station is considered to be Ark-1950 (opened in 2003), and the most popular is Ark-1800. Thanks to the variety of zones, everyone will find a suitable option here: from luxury to cosmopolitanism. In addition to the stations listed above, Les Arcs includes the quiet town of Bourg Saint-Maurice with truly French charm.
A distinctive feature of Les Arcs is the minimum distances between hotels and ski lifts. Thanks to its thoughtful layout, the resort is very convenient for skiing.
Trails and slopes
The resort has 106 slopes with an altitude range from 810 to 3225 meters. Most of the routes are above the 2 thousand m mark. The difficulty of the slopes is literally for every taste and any riding skill. For professional level athletes, the Plan des Violettes, Arandeliere and Grand Col routes on Mount Aiguille Rouge are of interest. This area is also great for freeriding. We recommend that extreme skiers try the Olympic track at Ark-2000 station. If extreme sports are not attractive, and your riding skills have not yet reached a professional level, choose the tracks in Ark-1800 and Ark-2000. The Ark-1800 area also has excellent blue trails for beginners who are just honing their skills. In general, there are enough easy trails in any ski area.
It’s also worth noting that the resort is perfect for snowboarders: it’s not called the “European birthplace of snowboarding” for nothing. Many wide fields in each area and three large snow parks make Les Arcs especially attractive for boarding enthusiasts.
Entertainment: active recreation and attractions
There is plenty of apres-ski entertainment at the resort: in between runs or if you get tired of snowboarding and skiing (which is hard to imagine given the variety of trails!) you can go for a snowmobile ride or ride in a sled with sled dogs. There is also bowling, laser tag for the whole family and a huge selection of SPA centers, swimming pools and saunas. For unusual entertainment, we can recommend the Igloo Village, which is located at an altitude of 2000 meters. All the buildings here are made of ice and snow: from traditional igloos to a grotto with ice sculptures, a unique restaurant and bar. You can even stay overnight in an igloo - the rooms here are quite comfortable, and you will receive an aperitif, dinner and breakfast as a gift.
For the most vibrant nightlife, bars and discos, we recommend heading to the Arc 2000 or Bourg Saint-Maurice zone.
Local kitchen
The choice of restaurants and cafes is extensive - not only in terms of atmosphere and menu, but also in terms of average price tag. At the resort you can try traditional French, authentic Savoyard and universally loved Italian cuisine. There are many spectacular restaurants at high altitudes, and dining at them will definitely be one of the most memorable experiences of visiting the resort.
How to get there
The nearest airports (120 to 220 km from Les Arcs) are in Chambery, Grenoble, Geneva and Lyon. From many major European capitals (eg Paris, London or Amsterdam) Bourg Saint Maurice can be reached by train.
