Val Thorens is one of the resorts in the legendary Three Valleys ski region. It is located at an altitude of 2300 meters above sea level and is one of the highest in Europe. The resort is quite young: unlike its “neighbors”, founded in the first half of the 20th century, it was built in 1971. Today it boasts state-of-the-art infrastructure and a variety of trails.
Trails and slopes
The total length of the Val Thorens slopes is 140 kilometers, the elevation difference is from 1800 to 3200 meters, almost all the slopes are above 2 thousand meters. The resort is served by 31 ski lifts. There are trails for snowboarders and skiers of all skill levels: from 11 green to 8 black. There are also several cross-country ski trails and a huge snow park with an area of 70 thousand square meters.
Entertainment: active recreation and attractions
For guests in Val Thorens there are both standard winter activities (snow scooters, sleighs, snowshoes, dog sleds), as well as more exotic and even extreme ones: you can take part in a bike ride in the snow, try your hand at border cross competitions, hone your driving skills on the ice, go mountain climbing or see the resort from above while paragliding.
There are also many options for a relaxing holiday after (or instead of) an active day on the slopes: several luxurious SPA centers, swimming pools, a cinema and bowling alley. Interesting cultural events regularly take place, from classical music and jazz concerts held weekly in the local church, to dinner in an authentic Mongolian yurt and an incredible torchlight descent down the mountain.
The resort's nightlife is also rich: you can go to the Irish pub O'Connells with a friendly, relaxed atmosphere, party in the Malaysia and Underground nightclubs, or choose any other establishment from dozens of options to suit every taste.
Family holiday
The resort infrastructure is suitable for families with children, even the youngest ones. The nursery accepts babies from 3 months old; there are also several kindergartens, two mini-clubs, and an amusement park. And from the age of three, you can already introduce your child to the family hobby of winter sports - the Prosneige school provides the services of experienced instructors who teach children using a special proprietary method.
Local kitchen
A visit to Val Thorens can be an exciting gastronomic adventure: the resort has more than 60 restaurants and several dozen bars to suit every taste. For a taste of luxury and haute cuisine, try the Michelin-starred l'Oxalys restaurant and La Table du Roy, which serves traditional French cuisine. For unique Savoyard cuisine, we recommend going to the chalet restaurants Chez Pépé Nicolas and Paillote.
How to get there
The airports of Geneva, Lyon and Chambery are located between 122 and 200 km from Val Thorens. You can get from there to the resort by train, bus, or rented car.
