Val Thorens is one of the resorts in the legendary Three Valleys ski region. Situated at an altitude of 2,300 meters above sea level, it is one of the highest in Europe. The resort is relatively new: unlike its neighbors, which were founded in the first half of the 20th century, it was built in 1971. Today, it boasts state-of-the-art infrastructure and a diverse range of slopes.

Trails and slopes

Val Thorens has 140 kilometers of pistes, with elevation gains ranging from 1,800 to 3,200 meters, and almost all of them are above 2,000 meters. The resort is served by 31 lifts. There are slopes for snowboarders and skiers of all skill levels, ranging from 11 green to 8 black. There are also several cross-country ski trails and a massive snow park covering 70,000 square meters.

Entertainment: active recreation and attractions

Val Thorens offers guests a variety of winter activities, from standard snowmobiling, sledding, snowshoeing, and dog sledding to more exotic and even extreme experiences: take part in a snow bike ride, try your hand at a boardercross competition, hone your ice-driving skills, go mountaineering, or see the resort from above during a paragliding flight.

There are also plenty of options for relaxing after (or instead of) a day on the slopes: several luxurious spas, swimming pools, a cinema, and a bowling alley. Interesting cultural events are regularly held, from classical music and jazz concerts held weekly at the local church to dinner in an authentic Mongolian yurt and an incredible torchlight descent down the mountain.

The resort's nightlife is also vibrant: you can head to O'Connells, an Irish pub with a friendly, relaxed atmosphere, party at Malaysia and Underground nightclubs, or choose from dozens of other venues to suit every taste.

Family holiday

The resort's infrastructure is suitable for families with children, even the youngest ones. A crèche welcomes children as young as three months, and there are also several kindergartens, two mini-clubs, and an amusement park. And as young as three, you can introduce your child to the family hobby of winter sports—the Prosneige school offers experienced instructors who teach children using a unique, proprietary method.

Local kitchen

A visit to Val Thorens can be a fascinating culinary adventure: the resort boasts over 60 restaurants and dozens of bars to suit every taste. For a luxurious experience and fine dining, try the Michelin-starred l'Oxalys restaurant and La Table du Roy, serving traditional French dishes. For unique Savoyard cuisine, we recommend the chalet-style restaurants Chez Pépé Nicolas and Paillote.

How to get there

Geneva, Lyon, and Chambéry airports are located between 122 and 200 km from Val Thorens. From there, you can reach the resort by train, bus, or rental car.
